Longtown 

With Carlisle only a short commute away and the superb Gretna Gateway Retail Park within easy reach, Longtown is a great place to live. Its wide, tree-lined streets give a clue to the town’s origins carefully planned as it was by local landowners, the Grahams of Netherby. Dr Robert Graham had established the Graham Arms as a coaching inn to cater for travellers and mail deliverers using the route to and from Edinburgh across the toll bridge. The area is still a leading marketplace for livestock with the largest sheep market in England located on the north bank of the River Esk.
